ROSARIO, SCATAMBURLO EARN WEEKLY HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Volleyball squad swept the initial Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Athletes of the Week awards, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

After a 9-1 start to open the year, sophomore Erica Calderon Rosario (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Salome Urena de Henriquez) and freshman Larissa Barreiros Scatamburlo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colégio Liceu Franco-Brasileiro) were tapped as the defensive and offensive Athletes of the Week, respectively.

The duo helped guide the Warriors to eight victories through the first two weeks of the season which in turn caught the attention of the conference. The strong start helped the Warriors jump from No. 19 in the preseason national rankings to No. 6 in the nation in the first national poll of the regular season, announced on Monday.

Rosario has powered the Warrior defense early on and currently leads the nation with 47 blocks this year. Nationally, Rosario ranks second with 15 solo blocks, second with 32 block assists, and second with 1.57 blocks/set. The sophomore put together three performances with nine total blocks, including against No. 5 Butler Community College (KS) and No. 2 New Mexico Military Institute to help lead the Warrior charge.

Scatamburlo has opened her collegiate career in convincing fashion as the freshman currently leads the NJCAA with 122 kills this year. Scatamburlo also ranks 11th nationally with 262 total attacks and 19th in the nation with a .336 hitting percentage. The freshman has posted double-digit kill performances in seven of the team's 10 matches this year.

The weekly honorees will look to continue their strong start to the season at the Hellyer Center on Wednesday night as the Warriors host Carl Sandburg College (IL) at 6:00 PM.
