West Burlington, IA – No. 6 Indian Hills Volleyball made quick work of a pair of opponents on Saturday to close out the Jimmy John's Tournament with a perfect 4-0 mark. The Warriors defeated both Highland Community College (IL) and Sauk Valley Community College (IL) with 3-0 sweeps.
The Warriors have now won seven consecutive matches, all by way of 3-0 sweeps after taking all 12 sets in the Southeastern Community College-hosted tournament at the Loren Walker Arena. Indian Hills topped Highland 25-11, 25-11, and 25-16 before running past Sauk Valley 25-20, 25-18, and 25-11.
After picking up two wins on Friday to open the tournament, the Warriors made quick work of Highland in the opener. Freshman Maggie Paiva (Asunción, Paraguay/Trinity School) continued to make an impact with a team-high 10 kills and 21 attempts. Paiva, along with teammate Kinga Michalska (Szówsko, Poland/ZSSCHiO) combined to produce four service aces each in the win.
As a team, the Warriors produced a season-high 17 service aces in the win. The 17 aces are the most for a Warrior team since September 29, 2017 when Indian Hills topped Missouri State University-West Plains 3-2. Following Saturday's performance, the Warriors now rank second in the nation with 122 service aces this season.
The Warriors used a dominant second set to upend the Cougars after hitting .458 in the 14-point victory. Indian Hills committed just two hitting errors while five different individuals tallied at least two kills in the set.
Indian Hills continued its offensive flurry in the weekend finale against Sauk Valley. The Warriors committed just three hitting errors in the first two sets to run away with the match.
Larissa Barreiros Scatamburlo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colégio Liceu Franco-Brasileiro) led the way with 13 kills followed by 11 finishers form Michalska. Indian Hills added 10 more service aces in the win, including three from Michalska and three from Sasha Vidal (Asunción, Paraguay/Trinity School).
Haleigh Hadley (Gilbert, IA/Gilbert) proved to be the difference maker on the defensive front after posting a career-high nine total blocks in the win. Hadley tallied two solo to lead Indian Hills.
The Warriors now gear up for a trip to Sterling, CO for the Sheila Worley Tournament hosted by Northeastern Junior College (CO) September 9-10 for four matches.
