NO. 3 WARRIORS PICK UP 36TH VICTORY

Ottumwa, IA – Playing in front of its home crowd for the first time in over a month, No. 3 Indian Hills Volleyball rolled to a 3-0 sweep over Hawkeye Community College on Monday night. The Warriors move to 36-2 overall on the year.

The Warriors dropped the Redtails in straight sets for the team's 21st sweep of the year. Indian Hills won by set scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-15. The 36 wins are tied for the second-most victories under head coach Lyndsey Michel and tied for the fourth-most in a single-season in school history.

Jenna Vallée (Pornichet, France/Lycee Aristide Briand) led the Warriors with 11 kills on the night. The sophomore now has led the Warriors in kills in 12 matches this year. Freshmen Kinga Michalska (Szówsko, Poland/ZSSCHiO) and Larissa Barreiros Scatamburlo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colégio Liceu Franco-Brasileiro) totaled seven and six kills, respectively.

The trio of attackers – Michalska, Scatamburlo, and Vallee have now combined to each surpass the 300-kill milestone on the year. This season marks just the second time since the 2012 season that three individuals have eclipsed the 300-kill mark in a single season. Each of the three individuals rank in the top-15 nationally this season.

Sophomore Jarolin de los Santos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Luis Munoz Rivera) picked up nine kills while hitting .500 on the night. The middle blocker added three total blocks to lift her season total to 174, the most in the nation.

Freshman Maggie Paiva (Asunción, Paraguay/Trinity School) helped power the Warriors down the stretch with a series of service aces. Paiva finished the night with a career-high five service aces, including four in the third set.

The Warriors jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the opening set and built its advantage to 15-8 by the first media timeout. Indian Hills held off a late rally from the Redtails in large part to a flurry of blocks at the net.

Hawkeye took charge to open the second set with a 10-4 lead, forcing the Warriors into a timeout. The Redtails built their lead to 18-12, but the Warriors strung together seven of the next eight points to pull back into contention. Paiva's serving helped keep the Redtails off balance and eventually led Indian Hills to a come-from-behind victory and a 2-0 match lead.

The Warriors had little trouble in the closing set to run away with the match and pick up the team's second victory over Hawkeye this year.

With postseason action looming, the Warriors have just two regular season contests remaining. A road date at Des Moines Area Community College on October 24 followed by the team's regular season home finale and Sophomore Night on October 26 vs. Marshalltown Community College.
