Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Volleyball team is set to open its Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) schedule Tuesday night with a showdown against league foe Iowa Western Community College at the Hellyer Center.

The Warriors make their home debut Tuesday night as Iowa Western makes the trek to Ottumwa for the first of three regular season meeting between the two programs.

FIRST SERVE

After 15 matches to open the 2023 season, the Warriors are set to make their first appearance in front of their home crowd at the Hellyer Center.

  • The Warriors enter the match with a 9-6 overall record following a 3-1 trip to Sterling, CO which included a thrilling five-set win over No. 10 New Mexico Military Institute.
  • Following the Warriors' strong weekend in the Mountains, Indian Hills checked into the national rankings in the 'Others Receiving Votes' category on Monday afternoon.
  • Sophomore Kinga Michalska was named to the Sheila Worley Invitational All-Tournament team after leading the Warriors with a career-high 25 kills in a 3-1 win over Snow College (UT).
  • Freshman Sara Van Gisteren currently ranks 12th in the nation with 206 kills on the year.
  • As a team, the Warriors are currently 10th nationally with a .265 hitting percentage, led by a .316 clip from Michalska.
  • The Warriors have been battle tested early with seven of the team's 15 matches against nationally ranked opponents.

SCOUTING THE REIVERS

The three-time national champion Reivers head to the Hellyer Center with a 5-11 overall record on the year, having dropped four straight matches by 3-0 sweeps at the Sheila Worley Invitational.

  • Iowa Western won three consecutive matches in McCook, NE before its four-game skid in Sterling, CO.
  • The Reivers have played a total of nine matches against the same opponents as Indian Hills with Iowa Western going 2-7 in those matches compared to the Warriors' 5-4 mark.
  • Freshman Carol Herrero leads the Reivers with 176 kills on the year in 562 total attempts.
  • Yuna Ansquer has paced the offense for the Reivers with 505 assists on the year, the seventh most in the nation.
  • As a team, the Reivers rank seventh in the nation with 190 block assists, led by the duo of Sofia Cerebuch and Gracilove Littlejohn.

LAST TIME OUT

The Warriors took both matches against the Reivers last year by set scores of 3-1. Sophomores Larissa Barreiros Scatamburlo and Kinga Michalska both tallied matches with 12 kills while Sasha Vidal combined for 45 digs in the season sweep.

The first win over the Reivers last year snapped a four-match losing streak for the Warriors. Dating back to the 2010 season, the Reivers lead the series 30-7

WHAT'S NEXT

A full week of the Warrior volleyball at the Hellyer Center is on the docket as Indian Hills plays host to the Warrior Triangular on Friday afternoon. Indian Hills will take on Carl Sandburg College (IL) at 1:00 PM followed by a matchup between Carl Sandburg and Kirkwood Community College. Indian Hills and Kirkwood round out the day with a 5:00 PM matchup.
