Ottumwa, IA – With three wins to boast last week, the Indian Hills Volleyball squad added a pair of weekly individual honors to cap its dominant run on the court. Sophomores Sasha Vidal (Asunción, Paraguay/Trinity School) and Larissa Barreiros Scatamburlo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colégio Liceu Franco-Brasileiro) have been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athletes of the Week.
The duo helped lead the Warriors, ranked No. 17 in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball poll, to three home wins last week, including a 3-1 win over league foe Iowa Western Community College on Tuesday. Indian Hills closed out the week with a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Carl Sandburg College (IL) and Kirkwood Community College at the Warrior Triangular at the Hellyer Center.
Vidal claimed her fourth ICCAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honor for the Warriors after a strong showing in all three matches. The sophomore tallied 21 digs on the week while collecting 26 receptions against Iowa Western alone. Vidal, who has tallied 155 digs through 18 matches this year, now ranks fifth all-time in school history with 1,088 digs and is just 10 away from moving into sole possession of third-place on the all-time leaderboard.
Scatamburlo was a force on the offensive front last week for the Warriors, providing late-game heroics in each of the three matches. Scatamburlo tallied 21 kills while hitting .325 on the week. Scatamburlo helped put the match out of reach with late-game finishers as the Warriors dropped just one set on the week. The weekly honor is the first-career award for the sophomore.
Next up for the Warriors is the Blue Dragon Classic in Hutchinson, KS on September 22-23. The Warriors will travel to the Hutchinson Sports Arena to take on the likes of Spartanburg Methodist College (SC), Hutchinson Community College (KS), Mineral Area College (MO), and Butler Community College (KS).
