WARRIORS POWER THROUGH MAC TOURNAMENT

Park Hills, MO – No. 16 Indian Hills Volleyball picked up three wins at the Mineral Area Tournament over the weekend, upping the team's overall record to 23-8 on the year. The Warriors earned victories over Vincennes University (IN), Missouri State University – West Plains, and Mineral Area College (MO).

Indian Hills, who has now won 18 of its last 21 matches on over the past 40 days, opened up the weekend Friday afternoon with a tight straight-set victory over District foe Vincennes 25-17, 28-26, and 29-27. After dropping a 3-1 decision to Hutchinson Community College (KS) on Friday night, the Warriors responded with a pair of wins on Saturday to close out the tournament. Indian Hills dropped Missouri State – West Plains in a thrilling come-from-behind five-set match 16-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 16-14. Indian Hills closed out the weekend in convincing fashion, dropping host Mineral Area 3-1 with set scores of 25-21, 23-25, 30-28, and 25-16.

Sophomore Kinga Michalska (Szówsko, Poland/ZSSCHiO) continued her dominant run on the court, racking up 86 kills over the course of the weekend, including a career-high 27 finishers in the thriller over Missouri State – West Plains. Michalska posted a .321 hitting percentage over the span of the four matches, including a .419 clip in the tournament finale vs. Mineral Area.

Michalska now ranks second in the nation with 426 kills while the outside hitter's 3.98 kills/set ranks sixth nationally. The sophomore now owns 855 career kills, the most for an individual career over the past eight seasons.

The Warriors opened the weekend with a sweep of Vincennes despite a competitive contest through all three sets. Michalska totaled a team-high 15 kills while Sara Van Gisteren (Leuth, Netherlands/Young Talent Academy ROC Nijmegen) added 13 finishers. Ana Carolina Westerich (Blumenau, Brazil/Colégio Energia) dished out 42 assists to pace the Indian Hills offense in the win.

Matching up against Hutchinson for the second time this season, the Warriors dropped a 3-1 decision to the Blue Dragons to split the season series. Michalska produced a team-high 20 kills while Van Gisteren added 18 for the Warriors. Freshman Sabrina Nogueira Da Silva (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Campos Salles) tallied a career-high 28 digs in the loss.

For just the third time this season, the Warriors went all five sets in Saturday's opener vs. Missouri State – West Plains. The Grizzlies took two of the first three sets, but the Warriors rallied over the final two frames to steal the victory. Sasha Vidal (Asunción, Paraguay/Trinity School) closed out the match with an ace in the final set to seal the win.

Led by Michalska's career-high 27 kills, the Warriors tallied 72 total kills in the win, the most for the program since tallying 72 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Midwest District Championship vs. Missouri State – West Plains in 2021. Van Gisteren tallied 18 kills while Gabriela Bieniek (Rzeszow, Poland/VLO Rzeszow) added 13 for the Warriors.

Vidal and Da Silva combined for 46 digs while Van Gisteren collected a career-high 26 digs for the Warriors. Michalska added 11 digs as the sophomore joined Van Gisteren with a double-double. The 104 team digs in the win were the most for the Warriors since collecting 112 vs. Iowa Central on September 7, 2013.

The Warriors split the opening two sets with Mineral Area in the weekend finale, but ran away over the final two frames to finish the weekend 3-1. The Warriors produced a .333 hitting percentage in the final set to clinch the win.

Michalska added 24 kills in the win to cap an impressive weekend on the court. Bieniek added 14 kills for the Warriors.

Da Silva finished the weekend as the defensive catalyst for the Warriors, tallying 102 digs over the four matches. The sophomore now owns 499 digs on the year, ninth most in the NJCAA.

Westerich was a force on the distribution side of the ball, collecting 191 assists on the weekend. The freshman now owns 987 assists on the year, fifth-most in the NJCAA. As a team, the Warriors have tallied 1,355 assists this season, the top mark in the nation.

Indian Hills also added 43 service aces over the four matches, including double-digit totals in each of the last three contests. The Warriors rank fourth national with 257 service aces this season.

Indian Hills returns to the Hellyer Center for its next date, a 5:00 PM matchup on October 18 vs. Jefferson College (MO). Five of the team's final six contests will be played at home.
