MICHEL NAMED REGION 11 COACH OF THE YEAR

Ottumwa, IA – For the second consecutive year, Indian Hills Volleyball head coach Lyndsey Michel has been tapped as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball Region 11 Coach of the Year, announced by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) on Thursday.

Michel has led the Warriors to their second consecutive trip to the national tournament, which gets underway November 15 in Hutchinson, KS. The Warriors will learn their opponent for the upcoming tournament at 12:00 PM on Thursday via the NJCAA DI Volleyball Selection Show on the NJCAA Network.

Along with Michel's honor, the Warriors garnered four NJCAA All-Region 11 selections while sophomore Kinga Michalska (Szówsko, Poland/ZSSCHiO) was named the NJCAA Region 11 Player of the Year.

Under Michel, the Warriors collected their second-straight ICCAC regular season and NJCAA Midwest District championship. Indian Hills will head to the national tournament with a 28-10 overall record on the year, including a 2-1 mark in the ICCAC. The Warriors have collected six wins over nationally ranked opponents this year and a pair of wins over teams that have already qualified for the national tournament.

After opening the year with a 5-5 record, the Warriors won 13 of its next 14 matches, including a 10-match winning streak. Indian Hills won 10 of its final 13 contests to punch its ticket to the national tournament while winning six of seven sets to sweep through the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament at the Hellyer Center.

Following a record-breaking season in 2022 that saw the Warriors reach the Final Four of the NJCAA DI Volleyball Tournament, Michel and the Warriors put together another dominant year. Indian Hills currently ranks in the top-10 in the nation in 14 statistical categories including assists (2nd – 1,658), kills (4th – 1,699), service aces (4th – 341), and hitting percentage (4th - .274). The Warriors boast the most kills between a pair of teammates in the NJCAA this year as Michalska and Sara Van Gisteren (Leuth, Netherlands/Young Talent Academy ROC Nijmegen) have combined for 961 kills this season.

Indian Hills is set for the upcoming NJCAA DI Volleyball National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS, which gets underway November 15 from the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The Warriors will learn their opponent during the NJCAA DI Volleyball Selection Show at 12:00 PM Thursday.
