MIRANDA DIAZ LANDS ICCAC HONOR

Centerville, IA – No. 1 nationally ranked Shammilka Miranda Diaz (Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz) led top-ranked Indian Hills Women's Wrestling to a thrilling win over No. 3 Iowa Western Community College on Friday to earn Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week honors.

In the most anticipated junior college women's wrestling dual of the year, Miranda Diaz scored a convincing 16-5 tech fall over No. 2 Flavia Nagatani of Iowa Western in the 116lb weight class. The freshman trailed 5-2 in the second period before scoring 14 unanswered points in the span of less than a minute to take the victory. Diaz's victory helped lead No. 1 Indian Hills to a 28-26 victory over the Reivers.

Diaz is now 2-0 on the year in ICCAC duals and 12-2 overall on the year. The freshman, ranked No. 1 in the latest NJCAA individual national rankings is 12-2 overall on the year with seven pins and four tech falls.

Miranda Diaz becomes the third Indian Hills Women's Wrestler to earn ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors, joining teammates Dutchess King (Lansing, IL/Thornton Fractional South) and Alondra Rosado Martinez (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Colegio Amarlieen).

Indian Hills is back in action on Wednesday night against No. 5 Iowa Central Community College at the Multi-Purpose Building on the Centerville Campus.
