NO. 1 IHCC DEFEATS WILLIAM PENN 29-11

Oskaloosa, IA – No. 1 Indian Hills Women's Wrestling picked up a nonconference road dual victory Friday night as the Warriors defeated William Penn University 29-11. The win is the Warriors' seventh dual victory of the year.

Meeting for the fourth time in three years in the annual CoEd Clash, the Warriors improved to 2-1 all-time vs. the Lady Statesmen. Indian Hills picked up six match victories on the night, including five falls. The Warriors earned wins in four of the final five bouts to pull away from William Penn.

Freshman Dutchess King (Lansing, IL/Thornton Fractional South), the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the nation at 101lbs, wrestled above her weight class in the 109lbs bout. King fell behind early as Rachel Cotter jumped out to a 5-3 lead. King battled back and scored 11 consecutive unanswered points to score a 14-5 tech fall and give the Warriors momentum moving forward. King picked up her team-leading 14th victory on the year, including six dual wins.

Shammilka Miranda Diaz (Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week) wasted no time securing a fall in the 116lb matchup. Miranda Diaz, the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the 116lbs weight class, scored five team points with a pin in 1:44 in the opening round. Miranda Diaz improved to 12-2 on the year with the win.

After a pair of tech falls for the Lady Statesmen, No. 2 nationally ranked Alondra Rosado Martinez (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Colegio Amarlieen) earned a pin in the opening round in just 1:41 for a 14-8 Warrior team lead. Martinez improved to 4-0 all-time vs. William Penn throughout her Indian Hills carrer.

Freshman Kaitlyn Hain (Wellington, KS/Wellington) earned the most impressive victory over of the night, needing just 35 seconds to pin her opponent in the 143lb bout. The pin is the second consecutive dual fall this week for Hain.

William Penn picked up a narrow 3-1 decision in a hard-fought matchup at 155lbs. The Warriors responded with back-to-back pins to close out the night. Freshman Yaracely Saenz (Bernalillo, NM/Bernalillo) scored a fall in 2:23 in the second round before freshman Tiffany White (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park River Forest) ended the night with a first round pin in 2:29.

Next up for Indian Hills is the final ICCAC dual with a trip to North Iowa Area Community College on February 1 in Mason, City, IA.
