BOMMARITO NAMED ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Centerville, IA – Freshman Eliana Bommarito (Brighton, MI/Hartland) of the Indian Hills Women's Wrestling squad continued to garner accolades after a memorable performance at the 2023 National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) National Invitational. Bommarito has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week.

In her first season at Indian Hills, Bommarito helped lead the top-ranked Warriors to the 2023 NJCAA Women's Wrestling National Championship on Saturday at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, IA. Bommarito captured the 235lb national championship after dominating the bracket for the program's first-ever title in the 235lb division.

For her efforts, Bommarito was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. The two-time high school national champion and four-time Michigan state champion won three matches at the NJCAA Invitational with a total mat time of just 5:20. As the No. 1 overall seed, Bommarito scored a quarterfinal pin in 35 seconds before a semifinal fall in 1:55. Bommarito earned an 11-0 tech fall in 2:50 in the championship bout to win the national title.

Bommarito joins three Indian Hills teammates to win the ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor – Shammilka Miranda Diaz (Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz), Dutchess King (Lansing, IL/Thornton Fractional South), and Alondra Rosado Martinez (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Colegio Amarlieen). All four individuals won a national title for the Warriors this past weekend.

As a team, Bommarito and the Warriors won the team title for the third consecutive year with 287 team points, 57 more than second-place Umpqua Community College.
