Mason Herrington, Sports Shooting

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Athletic Department has announced its Hy-Vee March Male Student-Athlete of the Month. Sophomore Mason Herrington (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) of the Indian Hills Sports Shooting team has been honored for his academic and athletic accomplishments throughout the month.

Herrington proved to be the Warriors' top gun at the Warriors' national championship event, the ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championships in San Antonio, TX. After a standout first season for the Warriors, Herrington wrapped up his season in 18th place out of 231 competitors at the National Shooting Complex. Herrington connected on 277-300 targets as the Warriors took home a national runner-up finish in the Classic All Around (CAA) Division IV standings.

For Herrington's efforts, the sophomore earned a spot in a 14-way shootoff for the individual national championship in the trap discipline. Herrington placed nine overall for the Warriors after posting a season-best mark.

Herrington was named to the ICCAC Academic All-Region 11 First-Team following the fall term for the Warriors.

Each month, with the support of the local Ottumwa Hy-Vee, the Indian Hills Athletic Department selects a male and female student-athlete of the month based on their academic and athletic performances throughout the previous month. Fans can catch interviews of each student-athlete from Ottumwa's South Hy-Vee on the GoHillsTV Facebook Page.
