Centerville -- The Indian Hills baseball team not only had its best season on the diamond in over a decade in 2017, but the squad performed exceptionally well in the classroom as well. A total of 33 players -- seven sophomores and 26 freshmen -- were named to the Spring Academic All-Region teams announced by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference office.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of between 3.5 and 4.0 to be on the first team; they must have a grade point average of between 3.0 and 3.49 for second-team honors.
Twenty-two players were on the academic all-region first team. They include sophomores Dillon Nelson, Enrique Veras, Jacob Rhinesmith, Jacob Thiessen, Lane Harvey, Noah Renaud, and Zachary Lauzon, and freshmen Brett Stenger, Colin Potrzeba, Endry Brito, Gerson Croes, Hunter Capps, Jared Spearing, Joshmar Doran, Justin King, Mark Wanner, Markus Gregson, Max Sheldon, Nich Eisenmenger, Ryan Humeniuk, Will Zimmerman, and Yesiel Valdez.
Second-team members were 11 freshmen: Bradley Bramschreiber, Caleb Miley, Christian Pena, Clay Lathen, DJ DePiero, Joel Martis, Manuel Blanco, Mitchell Price, Ray Nolan, Tristan Ledger, and Zach Fascia.
In all, Indian Hills had 82 student-athletes whose teams played in the spring term named academic all-region.
