COWLEY TAKES TWO FROM INDIAN HILLS

Arkansas City, KS – The Indian Hills Baseball team suffered a pair of losses on the road to No. 6 nationally ranked Cowley College (KS) on Friday afternoon. The Warriors fall to 1-2 to open up the year.

A day after knocking off the Tigers in a season-opening win, the Warriors fell behind early in game one of Friday's twinbill. Cowley built a 2-0 lead through two innings before the Warriors got on the board as Adrian Vargas (Caracas, Venezuela/Instituto Central de Educacion Ice) scored on a groundout. The two sides trade runs over the next inning thanks to a solo home run from sophomore Diego Aragon (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins), this first of his career.

The Tigers slowly pulled away, adding a run in both the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the sixth and held the Warriors scoreless the rest of the way.

Jack Nelson (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville Community) struck out four batters in two innings of work for Indian Hills. Sophomore Dade Hensley worked an inning of relief, striking out all three batters faced.

A slow start in game two forced the Warriors into a 5-0 deficit through three innings. An RBI single from Merrick Matthews (Centerville, IA/Centerville) and a sacrifice fly from Ricardo Van Grieken (Merida, VZ/San Luis HS) contributed two of the team's three runs in the fourth to pull within reach of Cowley. Indian Hills added one more run in the fifth before Cowley broke the game open with a 10-run fifth inning to sweep the day.

Freshman Anthony Monroy (Guarenas, Venezuela/Unidad Educativa 29 de Junio) collected a pair of hits in the loss for the Warriors. Sophomore Arturo Rodriguez (San Diego, CA/San Ysidro) struck out four batters on the mound in his first start of the year.

The two teams wrap up play with a single game at Cowley on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
