OFFENSE THRIVES IN SERIES SWEEP

Estherville, IA – Indian Hills Baseball completed its three-game series sweep of Iowa Lakes Community College with a pair of wins at the Hess Limberg Complex. The Warriors took game one 3-1 and game two 13-6.

A day after rolling over the Lakers 16-0, the Warriors earned two more wins to move to 34-15 overall on the year and 24-9 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play. The series wrapped up the regular season for the Warriors who will now look to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Baseball Region XI Tournament at Pat Daugherty Field in Centerville. The tournament will run May 12-14.

After the offense pounded out 12 hits and 16 runs on Friday night, the Warriors fell behind early to open Saturday as Iowa Lakes built a 1-0 lead through two innings. Indian Hills got on the board in the third on an RBI single from Noah Butler (Houston, TX/Goose Creek Memorial) and took the lead on a sacrifice fly from Ricardo Van Grieken (Merida, Venezuela/San Luis).

Reliever Sam Hart (Highlands Ranch, CO/ThunderRidge) held the Laker bats in check with a scoreless third and fourth inning. Tucker Ebest (Austin, TX/Lasa) added an RBI double in the fifth for a 3-1 lead. Hartz continued to keep the Lakers off the board before Dade Hensley (Mason, OH/Mason) took over for a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

Hart earned his first win of the year with 4.1 innings of scoreless work. Butler and Diego Aragon (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins) each collected two hits in the win. Daniel Figeruao (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Leadership Christian Academy) stole a pair of bases to hit the 40-stolen base milestone.

The Warriors took a 2-0 lead after an RBI double from Van Grieken in the second. Iowa Lakes' offense put together a four-run second to take its biggest lead of the weekend series. Indian Hills slowly chipped away at the deficit with a run in the third and one more in the fourth. The Warriors added two more in the fifth as Van Grieken added another run-scoring double for a 6-5 lead.

Van Grieken's big game continued in the sixth as the sophomore collected his third RBI double of the game during a five-run frame. Arturo Rodriguez (San Diego, CA/San Ysidro) and Anthony Monroy (Guarenas, Venezuela/Unidad Educativa 29 de Junio) tallied RBI singles in the seventh to power the Warriors to the series sweep.

Van Grieken finished the game 3-6 with four RBI while Rodriguez collected a career-high four hits with four runs scored. Monroy, Sergio Chavez (Laredo, TX/United South) and James Dutton (Toronto, Ont/Forest Hill Collegiate) added two hits apiece.

The Warriors relied on a five-man platoon on the mound. Jack Payne (San Antonio, TX/Clark) worked three innings of scoreless ball to improve to 8-1 on the year.
