WARRIORS CAP PERFECT WEEKEND WITH SATURDAY SWEEP

Millington, TN – The Indian Hills Baseball team continued its torrid start to the 2024 campaign on Saturday with an afternoon sweep at the Flag City Classic at the USA Baseball Stadium. The Warriors picked up a 5-1 win over Lincoln Land Community college (IL) before closing out the weekend with a run-rule shortened 11-1 win over St. Charles Community College (MO).

One day after picking up two wins in its season opener, the Warriors dominated in all facets of the game on Saturday to remain unbeaten for the team's first 4-0 start since 2021. Indian Hills used a pair of big innings in each contest, a three-run fifth in the opener vs. Lincoln Land and a five-run fifth against St. Charles to run away with the sweep.

Indian Hills relied on a pair of impressive starts on the mound as sophomore Andrei Gordeev (Balashika, Russia/Global Vision Christian) went six innings with just one earned run allowed and nine strikeouts in the opener before freshman Cole Huebner (Edmonton, Alberta, Strathcona) worked four innings with just three hits and one earned run allowed to pair with seven strikeouts for the Warriors.

The Warriors used timely hitting in the opener to knock off Lincoln Land in Saturday's opening affair. Deadlocked at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, sophomore Dylan Sayles (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) delivered an RBI single to score Raul Torres to break the tie. Indian Hills broke the game open in the fifth as sophomore JJ Dutton (Toronto, Ontario/Forest Hill) walked and later advanced on a pair of passed balls to push the lead to 3-1. Sophomore Miguel Salazar (Sentaines, Venezuela/San Luis) put the game out of reach with a two-run home run to center in the fifth as Gordeev kept the Loggers quiet at the plate. Freshman Aiden Ennis (Scarborough, Ontario/Mary Ward Catholic) aided in the win with a scoreless seventh frame to secure the victory.

Sayles finished the game 2-4 while Torres picked up a pair of knocks in the win for the Warriors.

The nightcap saw Indian Hills produce its most efficient performance of the early goings of 2024. Indian Hills scored at least one run in each of the five innings of play before closing out the contest early with a 10-run victory.

Indian Hills combined for six extra base hits on the day, including a triple from sophomore Ciro Benavides (Laredo, TX/Alexander). Dutton added a pair of hits and two runs scored while Salazar drove in four runs and Endi Jaquez (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Radio Santa Maria) knocked in three runs, including a two-run double in the fourth.

Torres finished the weekend 4-7 at the plate with five runs scored and three RBI to pace the Warrior offense. Logan Myers (Andover, MN/Andover) and Sayles each posted a team-high five hits in the unblemished weekend while Salazar capped the two-day event with a team-high six RBI.

As a team, the Warrior pitching staff combined for 30 punchouts throughout the weekend sweep.

The Warriors return to Millington, TN next weekend for a four-game set as part of the Babe Howard JUCO Classic. Action gets underway Saturday morning against Elgin Community College (IL) at 11:00 AM.
