BASEBALL RECEIVES PACT VOLUNTEER AWARD

Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team was recently recognized as the Promoting Appanoose & Centerville Together (PACT) Volunteer of the Year award recipients, announced at the 2024 PACT Banquet.

Head coach Matthew Torrez and the Warriors were honored Wednesday night for their volunteer work in the Centerville area and surrounding communities. A staple in the Centerville community over the last seven decades, the baseball team continued to make an impact with their volunteer work over the last year.

"We really do not do our volunteer work for this kind of attention, but on the other hand, I am so excited for our players to be recognized for the hard work they do in the community," Torrez stated. "Our community does so much to support our program and institution, I really just want them to know that we appreciate all the things they do and this is the best way to say thank you!"

The Warrior program takes part in a number of initiatives throughout the community on an annual basis. This year's volunteer projects included Operation Santa, Pancake Day cleanup, Christmas lights and decoration set up and tear down in the downtown Centerville area, and Tour of Homes cleanup.

The program also serves as a consistent helping hand by moving families into their new homes in the area and also assists in the clean up of buildings and homes to prepare for future sale.

On hand to accept the award were Torrez, assistant coaches Daniel Hargrave and Jack Donahue, and sophomores JJ Dutton, Carlos Venezuela, and Ciro Benavides.
