Ottumwa -- Four golfers from Indian Hills were placed on the NJCAA Division I Ping All-District team announced this week.  Sophomores Harry Doig and Jesse MacNaughtan and freshmen Harry Fearn and Cyril Henault earned the all-district recognition.

The Indian Hills spring season consisted of just one meet, The Grover Page Classic, after which the NJCAA canceled the spring sports season in March as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.  The Warriors, however, did play in six tournaments during their fall schedule.

Doig, who is headed to Cal State Fullerton to continue his education and golf career, had the low scoring average for IHCC in the fall, 71.7.  He won medalist honors at the Warrior Challenge with a 10-under par total of 206, and tied with his teammate, Fearn, for first place at the Tabor College Fall Invite.  He also had a third-place tie in another event.

MacNaughtan signed a letter of intent with Long Island University last December and had a 73.7 stroke average for the fall.  He won a tiebreaker to take the medalist spot at the Flyer Intercollegiate and also recorded a fifth-place tie.

With an average of 73.0 in the fall, Fearn was second to Doig for IHCC.  He had the first-place tie at the Tabor Invite and two other top-five finishes.  At the lone spring competition, Fearn led the Warriors at The Grover Page Classic with a three-over par 147, good for a tie for eighth place.

In his first collegiate season, Henault averaged 73.7 last fall with second- and third-place finishes.  His second came at the Warrior Challenge, when he wound up one shot behind Doig after firing a nine-under 207 over 54 holes.

Indian Hills coach John Mulholland points out that three of the four golfers had individual victories in 2019-20.  "All had great events on different occasions," said Mulholland.  "Highlights from the season included Harry Doig winning our home event by one shot over his teammate, Cyril Henault, who shot 66 in the final round; Harry Fearn and Harry Doig tying for first at the same event at Sand Creek Station; and Jesse MacNaughtan winning his first event as a Warrior at the famous Cog Hill Golf and Country Club."

"It was fantastic to have two freshmen selected (to the all-district team)," the IHCC coach said.  "Both Harry (Fearn) and Cyril got off to very different starts to the year, but together had very good individual efforts when playing in upper level events, which is great to watch as it shows these guys have what it takes to play at the next level.  Having four players selected shows the depth we have.  I felt any of these guys could win a tournament at any event we traveled to.  Each of these guys has been a pleasure to coach."
