Warriors Return to Action, Demolish Illinois Central

BB vs IC

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills drilled 17 3-pointers, the third highest total in school history, and scored a season-best point total in walloping Illinois Central, 113-79, on Tuesday night at the Hellyer Center.  In their first game in 10 days, the unbeaten Warriors didn't show any signs of rust, especially in their long-range shooting, making 17-of-33 tries from behind the arc in rolling to their 11th straight win to start the season.

When Jamel Allen, who led seven double-digit scorers with 17, nailed IHCC's 9th three in the first 13 minutes of the opening half, the Warriors led 35-22 and had already exceeded their season average for threes in a game.  The margin grew to 21 points by halftime and stayed above 30 points for most of the second half.  Eight different Warriors hit a 3-pointer, including one from 6'9" Corey Manigault, who saw his first extended playing time of the year and scored a dozen points in 13 minutes.

Shane Gatling and Connor Murrell had matching stat lines with 16 points on six FGs, four of them threes.

Illinois Central (2-7) had five double-figure scorers, paced by Leland Bradford with 19.

Indian Hills shot 60 percent from the field, 51.5 percent from distance, and made 77 percent of their free throws.

The IHCC record for 3-pointers in a game is 21 established two years ago in a home game against Southeastern.  The 2013-14 squad made 18 in one game.

Ivan Aurrecoechea was one of the two players who didn't hit a three, but he led the Warriors with 12 rebounds.  Tomas Woldetensae was one of the three who failed to reach double digits, but contributed eight assists.

The Warriors, who mainained their No. 3 national ranking in the poll released Tuesday, have two more home games this week, in this weekend's HyVee Classic.  They'll battle Kankakee on Friday night and 24th-rated Harcum (Pa.) Saturday.  Both games will start at 7:00.
