WARRIORS RUN PAST TYLER IN SEASON-OPENER

Ottumwa, IA – No. 2 Indian Hills Men's Basketball opened the 2021-22 season in convincing fashion with a 78-46 victory over Tyler Junior College (TX) on the opening night of the Reed Overhead Doors Classic. 10 different Warriors scored in the season-opening win.

Indian Hills outscored the Apaches by 19 in the second half to pull away for the victory. Davin Zeigler (Cleveland, OH/Bowling Green) led the charge for the Warriors with a team-high 18 points, including 10 in the first half. Adetokunbo Bakare (Newark, NJ/NJIT) added 12 points on 4-6 shooting from three-point range. Returning sophomore Braxton Bayless (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) filled the stat sheet for the Warriors with nine points, six assists, and five rebounds.

The Warriors led from the jump and built a quick 10-2 lead after a Taj Anderson (Queens, NY/Quality Education) layup. Zeigler's solid night ignited with just over two minutes to play in the first half with a three-point shot to give Indian Hills a 27-15 advantage. Ahren Freeman (Jacksonville, FL/New Orleans) capped the first half scoring with a bucket as Indian Hills went into the locker room with a 32-19 advantage.

The Apaches chipped away at the lead to open the second half before a three-point shot from Bakare regained a double-digit lead, 43-32 with 14:07 to play. An emphatic dunk from Andre Harris pushed the game out of reach at 70-45 with 4:14 as Indian Hills began its 2021-22 campaign with a dominant effort.

As a team, the Warriors outrebounded Tyler 56-38 and forced 14 Apache turnovers on the night. Tyler was limited to just 24.6 percent shooting on Friday, including a 20.6 clip from three-point range. The Warriors connected on 10 three's from deep as Bakare and Zeigler combined to shoot 7-10 from long-range.

Next up for the Warriors is the second night of the Reed Overhead Doors Classic on Saturday with a 7:00 PM tip vs. Butler Community College (KS) inside the Hellyer Center. The Grizzlies defeated Marshalltown Community College earlier Friday night.
