LATE SURGE LIFTS WARRIORS OVER BLUE DEVILS

Ottumwa, IA – No. 12 Indian Hills Men's Basketball outscored Kansas City Kansas Community College 35-14 in the final 8:08 to upend the Blue Devils 69-61 at the Hellyer Center on Wednesday night. The win moves the Warriors to 9-3 overall on the year.

Facing a 13-point deficit with under nine minutes to play, the Warriors regrouped and found their rhythm down the stretch. Having hit just three three-point shots all game up until the start of the late-game run, the Warriors drained five shots from beyond the arc the rest of the way to outlast the Blue Devils in nonconference action.

Freshman Enoch Kalambay (Gatineau, Canada/Orangeville Prep) recorded a career-high 24 points on the night including 17 in the second half alone. Kalambay knocked down three three-point shots while going 5-6 from the free throw line. The freshman also corralled seven rebounds in the win.

As a team, the Warriors went 23-27 (85.2%) at the charity stripe, the team's third time this season hitting at least 23 free throws in a contest. Indian Hills controlled the rebounding margin with a 35-33 edge on the night.

The Warriors opened up the night with a 5-0 run to start the contest and maintained the lead for a majority of the first half. In a low scoring first stanza, the Blue Devils connected on a three at the 5:30 mark to take their first lead of the night, 18-17. Kansas City Kansas held on to the lead the rest of the first half and took a narrow 26-25 lead into the locker room.

The Blue Devils pushed its offense to open the second half and built a double-digit lead with an 11-0 run. With the Blue Devils leading 47-34, Adetokunbo Bakare (Newark, NJ/NJIT) connected on a three at the 8:08 mark to ignite the Warrior offense. J'Vonne Hadley (St. Paul, MN/Northeasteron) and Kalambay connected on back-to-back three-balls to pull the Warriors within nine, 52-43. Hadley and Kalambay combined for 13 consecutive points to get the Warriors back within striking distance.

A three from Isaiah Marin (Phoenix, AZ/New Mexico) on an assist from Kalambay at the 4:19 mark pulled the Warriors within one while Kalambay hit a free throw to knot the score at 54-all. The Warriors came up clutch at the free throw line, going 11-13 down the stretch to cement the comeback victory over the visiting Blue Devils.

Indian Hills is back in action this weekend as the Warriors host the Hy-Vee Classic at the Hellyer Center.
