NO. 16 IHCC ROUTS KANKAKEE AT HOME

 

Ottumwa, IA – No. 16 Indian Hills Men's Basketball erupted for a season-high 112 points as the Warriors topped visiting Kankakee Community College (IL) 112-72 at the Hellyer Center on Saturday night. The Warriors are now on a three-game winning streak.

The Warriors hit the century mark for the first time this season while the 112 points are the most for the team since a 119-87 victory over Iowa Central Community College on Feb. 13, 2021. 11 different Warriors scored on the night while five players went for double-figures. Sophomore J'Vonne Hadley (St. Paul, MN/Northeastern) scored a season-high 24 points for the second consecutive game to lead the way for Indian Hills.

Kankakee jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead only to see the Warriors use an 18-2 run to set the tone for the rest of the game. Hadley powered the offense in the first half with 18 points in the opening frame. Freshman Eddiean Tirado (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Miami Triple Threat) connected on four consecutive three-point shots as the Warriors built a commanding 55-30 halftime lead.

Indian Hills scored the first nine points of the second half to extend the Warrior lead. In its most complete game of the season, Indian Hills led by as many as 41 points down the stretch to give the Warriors its largest margin of victory on the year.

Hadley, the reigning Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Athlete of the Week, added seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and a steal to the stat sheet while going 7-10 from the floor and 9-10 from the free throw line. Tirado, who ranks sixth in the nation in total three-point shots made, concluded the night with 15 points on 5-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

Ahren Freeman (Jacksonville, FL/New Orleans) went 5-5 from the floor to finish with 13 points. Taj Anderson (Queens, NY/Quality Education) added 14 points for the Warriors and Andre Harris (Cleveland, OH/Wright State) scored 10 points, one off from a season-high.

Indian Hills shot an efficient 54.8 percent (40-73) from the floor, the team's third time shooting 50.0 percent or better in a game. Of the 40 field goals, the Warriors assisted on 24, a season-high.

The Warriors now look ahead to a busy three-game week, including a pair of home games. Indian Hills hosts DMACC on Tuesday night and Sauk Valley Community College (IL) on Wednesday night before travelling to Highland Community College on Saturday night.

Saturday night's game was a part of the Indian Hills Hall of Fame induction night at the Hellyer Center where eight individuals were recognized.
