IHCC Falls to Iowa Western in Double OT

Ottumwa -- In a matchup between two of the top teams in the ICCAC, Iowa Western got a goal from Joao Burti in the second overtime to upend Indian Hills, 3-2, at the IHCC field on Tuesday.

The game-winning goal, which came on a header off a corner kick by Kwesi Allen, was Burti's second goal of the game. He had tied the score at 2-all when he headed a shot past IHCC goalkeeper Gabriel Ivlev after taking a pass from Pierre Lebrun with under eight minutes remaining in regulation.

The Warriors grabbed an early lead thanks to a Leandro Oshiro goal that came off a pass from Akean Shackleford with the contest only about seven minutes old.

Allen answered 19 seconds later with Iowa Western's first goal, beating Ivlev on a shot in the box.

Adam Garner found Shackleford for his 22nd goal of the season in the 54th minute to put IHCC back on top, 2-1. But the pair of goals by Burti allowed IWCC to escape with the victory.

Although disappointed with the result, IHCC coach Jon Fridal was proud of his team for the way they battled against the highly-ranked Reivers. "We played a very disciplined, organized game," Fridal said. "It's always tough to lose to an opponent in overtime, but our guys gave everything and I'm proud of their effort and focus today."

With one regular season game left to play -- Saturday's trip to Iowa Central -- the Warriors are 10-6 overall and 9-6 in the conference. The postseason begins next Wednesday with the Warriors still having a chance to host a first-round game.
