Lincoln, Illinois -- Akean Shackleford, who had a school record 22 goals last year on his way to All-American recognition, started his sophomore campaign in impressive fashion, scoring three goals and leading Indian Hills to a season-opening victory against Parkland (Ill.) College, 5-1, on Friday.

Shackleford had the lone goal in the opening half, scoring an unassisted tally in the 40th minute.

He scored again at the start of the second period, assisted by Reshon Phillip, and then Phillip and Wilson Barahona set up Shackleford for his third goal seven minutes later.

After Jesus Reina found the back of the net for Parkland, beating IHCC goalkeeper Ross Dalton, Nathaniel Mederos Fonda finished out the scoring and nailed down the IHCC victory with a pair of scores 11 minutes apart.  The first of those goals was unassisted and Rodrigo Pascual had an assist on the final Warrior goal of the contest.

IHCC outshot Parkland 31-5 with Shackleford's eight shots and seven by Fonda leading the Warriors attack.

Dalton had five saves for Indian Hills which comes right back to play Lincoln College on Saturday.
