Warriors Down Lakers in League Opener

Battling for the ball.

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills got its ICCAC schedule off to a good start on Friday, defeating Iowa Lakes, 4-1, as part of the Wells Fargo Cup at the IHCC field.  The Warriors lost both regular season matchups with the Lakers a year ago, and scored a total of three goals in those two contests.

It was another big day for Indian Hills sophomore Akean Shackleford, who scored three goals as the Warriors won their third straight game to begin the fall campaign.

Rodrigo Paredes started the scoring for IHCC, off a feed from Craig Brand in the 16th minute.  After that, Shackleford took over.  He scored 11 minutes after Paredes, assisted by Wilson Barahona, and the Warriors took a 2-1 halftime lead.

The second half featured two more scores for Shackleford.  He had a goal with an assist by Reshon Phillip in the 59th minute, then ended the scoring late in the game, a goal assisted by Gabriel Peres.

Ross Dalton stopped five shots in goal for IHCC.

The Warriors host Johnson County (Kans.) on Sunday.
