Shackleford Given National Honor

Shackleford Ntional Player of the Week. 5 games, 25 shots, 11 goals, 1 assist, 23 pts.

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills sophomore Akean Shackleford, who leads all Division I players in goals and points, has been named the NJCAA Division I National Player of the Week.  Shackleford was honored for his play in the Warriors' victories against Iowa Lakes and Johnson County last weekend, wins that allowed IHCC to claim the Wells Fargo Cup.

The native of Jamaica had the final three goals in a 4-1 decision against Iowa Lakes and followed with two more scores in a 12-0 shellacking of Johnson County.  Those performances gave Shackleford, an All-American for Indian Hills last year, nine goals and an assist for the season.  He added a pair of goals on Wednesday when the 5th-rated Warriors lost for the first time this season, 4-2 at Jefferson College.

Shackleford shattered an IHCC record with his 22 goals as a freshman when he had at least one goal in 13 of his team's 18 matches.  He has scored at least once in all five games so far this fall.
