PK By di Piero Earns IHCC Win

Indian Hills soccer

Ottumwa -- A penalty kick by Theodoro di Piero three minutes into the first overtime period allowed No. 9 Indian Hills to defeat No. 12 Iowa Western, 2-1, on Wednesday at the IHCC field.  It was just the second victory ever for Indian Hills over Iowa Western.  The other came in 2010 by a 1-0 score.

After a scoreless first half, Akean Shackleford's 16th goal of the fall got Indian Hills on the board in the 49th minute.  Nine minutes later Matthew Woo Ling tied the score for Iowa Western.  It remained knotted at 1-1 until di Piero beat IWCC goalkeeper Jan Hoffelner with his 11th goal, the game-winner, in OT.

Hoffelner had eight saves and IHCC keeper Ross Dalton made four stops.

Indian Hills upped its season record to 7-1. Next up for the Warriors is a conference matchup at Dakota County on Saturday afternoon.
