Cedar Falls, IA – The Indian Hills Community College Track & Field team continued what has been a record setting season at the Jack Jennett Open hosted by the University of Northern Iowa Friday afternoon. The team broke 5 school-records, and notched 24 personal-bests on the day.

Freshman Elijah Barnes got the record-breaking momentum started in the weight throw. Barnes threw personal bests in nearly every toss of the competion until the 6th and final throw of the finals, where he launched a heave of 13.49m in the event.

Fellow freshman Tyler Pouncy must have liked what he saw, because just moments later, he catapulted himself down the runway, and registered for take-off in the long jump; in what would be the furthest jump by any athlete in IHCC history. Pouncy's mark of 6.83-meters (22'3") betters the mark of freshman teammate Tyler Dunigan from the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic in December by .06-meters, and was a mere .17-meters off the national qualifying mark in the event.

Next, freshman Haley Revel re-broke her own school-record in the shot put with a toss of 11.70-meters (38'6"). Revel has broken the school-record in the event in each of the two meets she has competed in during the 2018-19 indoor season for the Warriors.

Then, freshman MyKeedra Craig rocketed to a school-record-breaking time of 7.87-seconds in the prelims of the 60-meter dash, breaking the 2018 record set by sophomore All-American Tyarra English-Paulson. However, Craig was far from done. In the final, she blistered the track to an individual victory in the 60-meter dash, as well as re-breaking her own school record time in 7.79-seconds.

Sophomore All-American Michael DeMeyer was the last Warrior to break a school-record as he took-down his own school-record in the 3,000-meter run to cap off the evening. DeMeyer raced his way to a time of 8:49.36 in a near solo effort.

However, those weren't the only big time performances on the day. Sophomore Joshua Raphael captured the individual victory in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.91 seconds.

Freshman Dyashia Colvin finished 5th overall in the 60-meter dash final in a time of 7.95 seconds. A mere tenth of a second off the national qualifying mark, and .02 seconds off the previous school-record.

Freshman Conner Riley also finished with a valiant 4th place finish in the mile run. The Ottumwa native crossed the finishing line in 4:29.06 seconds. Less than a half-a-second off the previous school-record set by Luke Singler.

Finally, the men's 4x400-meter relay squad of: freshman Chris Bass, freshman Carlon Steward, freshman Kohner Butts, and freshman Kenny Bednarek finished runner-up in the event. When Bednarek got the baton, the team was in 3rd place, nearly 80-meters behind the leading Hawkeye Red Tails. Bednarek managed to muscle the team all the way back to tie Hawkeye Community College in the homestretch, before being narrowly edged out by .05-seconds for 2nd place. The true freshman anchored with a split of 44.90-seconds to help the team to a finishing time of 3:26.00.

Coach LeRon Williams said of the team's effort, "It was a great weekend. I saw some great performances all around the track. On the men's side, Ty Pouncy had a great day jumping a life-time best, Michael DeMeyer ran well, and Kohner Butts continues to chip away at that 600 qualifying mark. On the women's side, Shay just missed qualifying in the high jump, but jumped a personal best. Dyashia & MyKeedra put together great performances, and I felt Halley Wilmes ran really well in the 800. We are still working towards our goal of putting together the best men's and women's squad we can to compete at the National Meet, the improvements from this weekend show we are moving in the right direction. I'm excited for next weekends meet."

The Warriors will travel across state lines as they compete in the Frank Sevigne Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska on Friday, February 1st, and Saturday, February 2nd.
