Warriors Host Region XI Trials; Riley Leads the Way

Riley

Ottumwa -- Sophomore Conner Riley had a top-ten finish as Indian Hills hosted the first cross country meet in program history at the Cedar Creek Golf Course on Friday.

Riley ran the 5K course at Cedar Creek in 17:02 for a ninth-place finish.  The Warriors were third in the team standings, trailing Iowa Western and Iowa Central.  "This was a special race for Conner, being from Ottumwa and working at the golf course," said IHCC coach Brent Ewing.  "That added a little extra motivation for him.  He has really blossomed over the past year and I'm very proud of the work he's putting in."

Freshman Micha Reed was second for the Warriors in 17:49 with Ethan Mesenbrink close behind with a time of 17:51.  "Micha is more or a 400/800 meter runner," Ewing pointed out, "and, honestly, we just wanted him to get a workout in and he ended up being our second finisher. His competitiveness is off the charts."  Rounding out the top five for the IHCC men were Seth Kilborn and Ben Oliver in 17:58 and 18:17, respectively.  A 75-second spread from the top five IHCC runners helped them to their third-place finish.

The Warriors will run in the John Kurtis Fall Invite hosted by Wartburg College on Saturday, Sept. 7.
