Sports Shooting Program Debuts at IHCC

Indianola, Iowa -- The Indian Hills sports shooting team had its first competition ever on Thursday when the IHCC team went up against Grand View University at the Warren County Izaak Walton League. Indian Hills, coached by Jake Stalzer, was defeated by the Vikings, 460-417 with each side having five individuals contributing to its score.

Hunter McAninch led Indian Hills with a score of 93, good for a tie for 2nd place. Next was Case Scieszinski with an 86. Brett Nace (82), Tristan Schaefer (79) and Colton Selvy (77) rounded out the Indian Hills scores ( individual totals were out of a possible 100).

"I thought we did well for the first competition," said coach Stalzer. "It was a great experience for the student-athletes who have never had a collegiate competition before tonight. Grand View is a very good team and already had three competitions this spring, winning all three. We battled them the best we could, but ended up falling short."

Stalzer emphasized how proud he was of the Indian Hills shooters who gained a measure of fame by being the first to compete for IHCC in the new athletic offering. "These guys tried the best they could and will only get better from here on out. We will work on what gave us problems tonight and will be more prepared for our next shoot."

Indian Hills will compete with seven other schools in an event hosted by Hawkeye Community College on April 8.
