IHCC SHOOTERS FALL IN OPENER

OTTUMWA – Competing virtually as each team shot and scored at their home course, the Indian Hills Sports Shooting team fell in its 2020-21 season opener last week to Southwestern Community College, 468-456.

The scores were tabulated during the week at each team's home venue and then reported to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference offices for tabulation.  Monday's results showed coach Jake Stalzer's shooters fell by twelve.

"We put up some solid numbers for our first competition of the  year, and not much practice, but Southwestern came out firing with their best score of the fall, shooting a 468," said Stalzer.  "Even though we shot well for our first shoot, in order to compete more, we are going to have to have a few of our mid-80s folks step up and get in the 90s more regularly."

"I know they are all capable of doing that, and believe they will more regularly with more time and targets," added Stalzer.

Freshman John Meyer (Bettendorf, IA) had a big day for IHCC as he hit 96-of-100 targets and finished in second place overall in the men's division.

"Josh has stepped up big as a newcomer for us, and I look forward to seeing what he can do for us this fall," Stalzer said

Drew Appleget (Oskaloosa, IA) wasn't far behind as the sophomore shot 94-of-100 while classmate, Caron Boyse (Kalona, iA) fired a 92.   Nathan Welch and Alan Carmichael rounded out the scoring for Indian Hills with an 88 and 86, respectively.

On the ladies side, sophomore Katelyn Talbert (Memphis, MO) finished in second place with a score of 80, while freshman Camme Barber (Oskaloosa, IA) landed in third with a 79..

Next up for the IHCC sports shooters will be another virtual dual with Northeast Iowa Community College.  Stalzer reports that his squad will be shooting for scores on Wednesday in Centerville, and Thursday in Ottumwa.
