Groet, Snider, Olson Are All-Americans

Ottumwa -- A trio of Indian Hills freshmen -- Alexis Groet, Brooke Snider and Chloe Olson -- were named to the NJCAA All-American softball teams announced this week.  Groet was one of four pitchers selected for the second team while Snider made the second team as an infielder.  Olson was the designated player on the third team.

Snider, a West Marshall HS grad, established a new single-season IHCC record with her 27 home runs and batted a team-best .434 while also topping the Warriors in at-bats (189), runs (61), hits (82), RBIs (77), total bases (180), slugging percentage (.952) and on-base percentage (.476).  She shattered the previous season homer mark of 19.

Groet also had a record-setting season with 301 strikeouts, eclipsing the previous record of 267.  She won 23 games for an IHCC team that qualified for the NJCAA national tournament, the most wins for an Indian Hills pitcher in 15 years.  Groet, who graduated from Oskaloosa HS, was 23-7 with a 2.28 ERA in 35 appearances (31 starts) and had 10 shutouts while striking out nearly 10 batters-per-seven-innings.

Olson's 20 homers also bettered the previous season mark.  She was second on the team with a .410 batting average and knocked in 53 runs.  The Ankeny Centennial product tied for the team lead with 16 doubles and was third in runs (51) and hits (71) while slugging .873.
