WARRIORS FALL TWICE TO PARIS

Paris, TX – A pair of late leads disappeared as the Indian Hills Softball team dropped two games at Paris Junior College (TX) on Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors fell 4-2 in game one and 6-4 in game two.

The Warriors fell to 3-6 overall on the year after wrapping up its Texas road trip. Four of the Warriors' losses on the road trip came by two runs or less, including both contests against the Dragons.

The Warriors fell behind 1-0 in the opening game until Bryanna Mehaffy (Burlington, IA/Burlington) doubled and scored on a Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) single in the top of the third. Starting pitcher Madi Huisman (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial) kept the Dragons scoreless over the next three frames to keep Indian Hills within contention.

The Warriors' top hitter throughout the early portion of the season, Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) doubled and scored on a Breanna Newton (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf) double in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. Paris eventually got to Huisman with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth and the Warriors went scoreless in the final inning to drop the opener.

Despite the loss, Huisman recorded six strikeouts for the Warriors. Six different Warriors collected hits in the loss.

Paris jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening inning of game two before Gretta Hartz (Runnells, IA/Southeast Polk) connected on her first home run of the year, a solo shot to tie the game in the top of the second. The Dragons responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half only to see Indian Hills respond with two runs in the top of the third as Lewis doubled and scored on a home run from Anderson.

Indian Hills took the lead in the top of the fifth as Lewis singled and scored, but another rally from the Dragons resulted in three runs to take a 6-4 lead, an advantage the home team held on to throughout the remainder of the game.

Lewis put together another impressive performance to open up her freshman season, going 4-4 with two runs scored. Anderson finished the game 2-4 and has now hit four home runs in the team's first nine games of the season.

Freshman Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union) took the loss, but struck out six batters for the Warriors.

Indian Hills returns to action on March 11 at Seminole State College for a four-game series.
