WARRIORS EXPLODE FOR 49 RUNS IN DOUBLHEADER SWEEP

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Softball team opened its home portion of its schedule in impressive fashion on Thursday night, defeating Dakota College at Bottineau (ND) twice by scores of 20-1 and 29-0 at R.L. Hellyer Field. The Warriors move to 9-6 overall on the year.

The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before erupting for a 15-run second inning to pull away. Indian Hills totaled 17 hits in the win while allowing just three hits from the Lady Lumberjacks.

Freshman Carly Campbell (Homestead, IA/Williamsburg) went 3-3 on the day with a home run and four RBI while scoring a pair of runs. Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk), Maddy Findley (Knoxville, IA/Knoxville), and Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) each added home runs in the win. Kennedy Preston (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle) recorded a pair of base hits and two RBI.

Madi Huisman (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial) got the start in the circle and went two innings with four strikeouts without allowing a baserunner. Freshman Ryann Cheek (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) closed out the game with three innings of work and four punchouts to earn her first collegiate victory.

The production at the plate continued for Indian Hills in the nightcap. The Warriors built a 3-0 lead before adding 17 runs in the third and nine runs in the fourth inning to earn the doubleheader sweep and extend the team's winning streak to six games.

Lewis starred at the plate once again, going 4-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Breanna Newton (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf) went 3-3 with two doubles and a triple while driving in three runs. Alex Bear (Albia, IA/Albia) finished the game 3-4 with four runs scored, three RBI and a home run, her first of the season. Emma Bolton (Osceola, IA/Clarke) added her first collegiate home run, a three-run shot for the Warriors.

Freshman Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union) went three innings in the circle to earn the win and improve to 3-2 on the year. Anderson struck out five batters before Margot van eijl (Oosterhout, Netherlands/Calandlyceum) closed out the game with two scoreless innings of work.

The Warriors return to action on Sunday at home with a doubleheader vs. State Fair Community College (MO). First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
