LEADING OFF

Indian Hills' lengthy road trip to open the year continues as the Warriors play four neutral-site road games at the IWCC Round Robin, hosted by Iowa Western at the Dr. John & Jean Marshall Softball Complex.

The Warriors will take on both Hutchinson and NIACC on back-to-back games. The weekend also features Iowa Western and Dakota Wesleyan in the event.

DIAMOND NOTES

The Warriors are coming off a strong showing at the JUCO Extravaganza in Oxford, AL at Choccolocco Park, home to the 2024 NJCAA DI Softball World Series. Indian Hills posted a 4-2 record, including a win over No. 2 nationally ranked Northwest Florida State.

  • Indian Hills closed out its southern trip winning 3-of-4 games with its lone loss to No. 3 nationally ranked Wallace State 1-0.
  • The Warriors outscored their opponents 30-13 over the last four contests
  • Sophomore Tatum Aragon has sparked the offense, hitting safely in 10 of the team's last 11 contests, including a 3-4 performance with three doubles against Southern Union on February 24.
  • Ashlynn Sheets has produced a strong start to her freshman campaign in the circle, picking up a pair of wins with a 1.52 ERA in 27.2 innings of work.
  • The Warrior pitching staff owns a 2.20 ERA on the year, ranked 20th in the nation, compared to a 4.09 mark from its opponents. 

REID LANDS WEEKLY HONOR

Sophomore Sara Reid collected her second consecutive Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Softball Pitcher of the Week honor after a pair of dominant performances against nationally ranked foes. 

Reid tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless relief in a thrilling 5-4 win over No. 2 Northwest Florida State on the second day of the JUCO Extravaganza. The righty followed up with an impressive outing vs. No. 3 Wallace State on Sunday, allowing just one unearned run in six innings of work in a narrow 1-0 loss to the Lions.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DRAGONS

Hutchinson heads to Council Bluffs with a 12-4 overall record and are receiving votes in the first regular season poll after earning a spot at No. 17 in the preseason national rankings.

  • After opening the year with a 6-0 record, the Blue Dragons dropped four of five, but bounced back to win its last five outings by a combined score of 88-7.
  • Hutchinson has posted a .417 batting average through the team's first 16 games which ranks third in the nation.
  • Indian Hills and Hutchinson will be squaring off for the first time since 2017, an 11-1 win for the Warriors in Fort Worth, TX.
  • The Blue Dragons are under the direction of head coach Jaime Rose who is in her 20th season at the helm of the program.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS

The Trojans are off to a 5-3 start on the year, but are just 2-3 over the team's last three outings. 

  • NIACC has posted a .338 batting average through the team's first eight games, averaging 6.4 runs per game during the stretch.
  • Macy Kellar has won three games in the circle for the Trojans and owns a 2.63 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 24 innings of work.
  • Madisyn Kelley leads the offense with a .524 (11-21) batting average while Brynnlin Kroymann has posted a .500 (13-26) clip at the plate.
  • The Trojans have tallied 31 extra bas hits this season, including 23 doubles.

WHAT'S NEXT

Life on the road continues for the Warriors with back-to-back doubleheaders in Kansas. Indian Hills heads to Johnson County Community College (KS) in OVerland Park, KS for a two-game set on March 10 before heading to Butler Community College (KS), ranked No. 14 in the national poll, for a twinbill on March 11.
