THREE WARRIORS CLAIM FIRST AT FALCON INVITE

Park City, KS – No. 5 Indian Hills Men's Wrestling opened up its 2021-22 campaign with an impressive showing at the Falcon Invitational, hosted by Friends University on Saturday. The Warriors earned four medalists, including three first-place finishes.

With over 500 individuals competing on Saturday, the Warriors backed up their preseason No. 5 national ranking with a solid performance. In the 125lb weight class, Chris Busutil (Homestead, FL/South Ridge) took home the top spot with a 3-2 decision in the title bout. Busutil earned a pair of pins on his way to the title.

Returning All-American Caleb Meekins (Livonia, MI/John Glenn), ranked No. 1 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Individual Rankings, took home first-place in the 133lb weight class. Meekins earned a pin in the championship match in 49 seconds.

Deron Pulliam (Columbus, OH/Dublin Scioto), also ranked No. 1 in the national rankings and a returning All-American for the Warriors finished first in the 184lb weight class. The sophomore won all five rounds by decision, including a 3-2 victory in the first-place match.

Victor Guzman (Rock Island, IL/Rock Island) finished third overall for the Warriors in the 141lb weight class. After falling in the semifinal round, Guzman bounced back to earn medalist honors in the sophomore's first competition of the season.

Freshman Matthew Lewis (Centerville, IA/Centerville) put together a strong showing in his first collegiate competition as well, reaching the consolation semifinal round after three opening round victories, including a 6-0 decision in the quarterfinals.

The early season invite sets the stage for the Warriors' first dual of the regular season on Nov. 10 when Iowa Central Community College heads to Centerville for a 7:00 PM contest in the Indian Hills Multi-Purpose Facility.
