SOPHOMORES POWER NO. 5 WARRIORS AT HOME

Centerville, IA – The No. 5 Indian Hills Men's Wrestling proved it's a force at all levels of wrestling as the Warriors defeated NAIA member William Penn University 40-6 on Sophomore Night at the Multi-Purpose Building on Friday night. The Warriors improve to 8-2 in duals on the year.

Prior to Friday's match, the Warriors recognized its sophomore class that powered the program as a start-up in 2021, only to lead the squad to an National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) District Championship last season and a current No. 5 rank in the nation this year.

The Warriors were led by a series of sophomores on Friday night as Chris Busutil (Homestead, FL/South Ridge) opened the night in the 125lb weight class with a pin in the third round. Busutil is currently the No. 5 ranked wrestler in the nation in the 125lb weight class.

No. 7 nationally ranked sophomore Victor Guzman (Rock Island, IL/Rock Island) scored a fall as well in the 141lb weight class, coming in the second round to give the Warriors a commanding 18-0 lead.

Sophomore Destin Jones (Miami, FL/Miami Palmetto) earned a 10-8 decision in the 157lb weight class and Cameron Nesbitt (Champaign, IL/Centennial), ranked No. 7 in the 165lb weight class, earned a 5-2 deicsion.

The Warriors continued to roll in the upper-weight classes as Jacob Anderson (Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage) earned a major decision at 174lb and Tobias Bell (Chicago, IL/Curie) earned a 13-7 decision at 184lb.

Deron Pulliam (Columbus, OH/Dublin Scioto), ranked No. 1 in the nation at 184lbs, wrestled in the 197lb match and earned a 6-2 decision. Sophomore Noah Broderson (Davenport, IA/Assumption) finished off the night with a pin in the second round to seal the 40-6 victory for the Warriors.

The now-annual CoEd Clash began in 2021 as the men and women of both Indian Hills and William Penn competed against one another on the same night. The Indian Hills women aided in the Warrior sweep with a 26-17 victory over William Penn.

The sophomore class recognized on Friday included Anderson, Bell, Broderson, Busutil, Caleb Collins, Deven Durham, Drew Evans, Guzman, Jones, Damari Kellie, Ethan Lemon, Eli Lloyd, Caleb Meekins, Ramiro Mosquera, Nesbitt, Pulliam, Tate Ricard, and Khris Walton.

The Warriors return to action Saturday afternoon to take on No. 8 nationally ranked Iowa Western Community College in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) action at the Multi-Purpose Building. The two teams square off at 3:00 PM.
