Warriors Knock Off Hawkeye

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills opened up a 5-0 lead over Hawkeye CC and recorded a conference victory on Saturday, beating the RedTails, 5-2, at the IHCC field.  The win improved the Warriors' season record to 3-0-1.

Laura Hallissey hit the crossbar with her first shot, but, undeterred, Hallissey came back to score the initial goal of the game late in the first half and added another early in the final half.  They were her 3rd and 4th goals of the year.  Charlyann Pizzarello assisted on Hallissey's first-half goal and Taylor Hiatt on the second-half score.

Pizzarello, who had kicked the game-winner in the Warriors' most recent game -- a double-overtime contest against Dodge City last weekend -- had the next IHCC goal, assisted by Eda DemiralayBrandi Menephee had two goals about a minute apart later in the second half.  The first was unassisted, and the second came off a pass from Carmen Kager

IHCC starting goalkeeper Emily Sands didn't have to make a save in playing the first 80 minutes.  Taylor Karns replaced her in goal and faced four shots, saving two, over the final 10 minutes.  Hawkeye avoided a shutout with two late goals.

Indian Hills outshot Hawkeye, 24-8.

The Warriors have another conference match next when they travel to Mason City to take on NIACC next Saturday.
