Sophomore Day Shutout for IHCC

Sophomores on the 2017-2018 Women's Soccer Team.

Ottumwa -- Playing in their final regular-season home match, on a day when the squad's sophomores were honored, Indian Hills posted their first-ever victory against Iowa Central, beating the Tritons, 3-0, at the IHCC field.

The win puts the Warriors' season record at 10-2-2 and conference mark at 6-1.  They are in second place one game in back of Iowa Western in the ICCAC standings and have clinched a first-round bye in the postseason tournament.  They will host their first postseason game on Nov. 1.

Charlyann Pizzarello got the scoring started for the Warriors with a goal with less than seven minutes expired in the opening half.  It was her 6th of the season and 3rd in the last three games.  Emma Rosner assisted on the goal.  Ellie Priest, one of 11 sophomores recognized on Sophomore Day, scored on a penalty kick in the 24th minute, goal number-two for Priest, to make it 2-0.  Laura Hallissey, another soph who has played a big part in the program's turnaround, notched her team-high 12th goal in the second half to provide some insurance, with an assist from soph Megan McElmeel.

That was more than enough offense for IHCC goalkeeper Emily Sands, who stopped four shots on goal and registered her 4th solo shutout of the fall.  It was the 5th shutout overall for the Warriors.

IHCC's final regular-season matchup will be this Saturday at Scott CC.
