Des Moines, Iowa -- For the second year in a row, the Indian Hills women's soccer team had its season come to a close with a loss to Iowa Western in the title game of the Region XI postseason tournament.  And it was the second straight time things ended in heartbreaking fashion for the Warriors.

On Saturday, at the Cownie Soccer Park, Indian Hills and Iowa Western played to a 1-1 draw through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.  The match was settled in a penalty kick shootout with Iowa Western converting all five of its chances while the Warriors connected on three of their five tries.  So Iowa Western claims the Region XI title and advances to the NJCAA Division I national championship this month in Florida. 

The match was scoreless until Iowa Western's Paige Moser scored with 15 minutes left in regulation.

Less than a minute remained in the second half when IHCC sophomore Eda Demiralay picked a great time to score her first goal of the season, a shot from about 35 yards out.  The unassisted goal tied the score at 1-all.

Neither side could break through in the two OT periods.  Iowa Western went first in the shootout and scored.  Indian Hills first attempt was stopped by IWCC keeper Mandy Clark and the Reivers were good on their next four shots while the Warriors made 3-of-4. 

Emily Sands, before the shootout, had nine saves for the Warriors.

Iowa Western lost its first five matches of the fall and has now won 12 in a row.  Indian Hills closes the year with a 12-2-3 mark, and 28 wins over the past two seasons.

Last year's bid for a national tourney trip for Indian Hills was stopped by Iowa Western, which beat the Warriors, 2-1, in double overtime in the Region XI tournament final.
