WARRIORS ERUPT FOR SEVEN GOALS IN HOME WIN

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Soccer team rolled to a 7-0 victory over visiting Western Iowa Tech Community College on Wednesday for its second win of the year. The Warriors move to 2-1-2 this season.

Five different Warriors found the back of the net in the win, including a pair each from Leila Karam (Cowansville, Quebec/Cure'-Antoine Labelle) and Sage Prince (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic Secondary). Sophomore Kenya Lee (Cassopolis, MI/Dowagiac) and freshman Alexia Bru (Barcelona, Spain/Vall d'Hebrón) each added their first goals of the year while Rose Blampain (Saint-Martin Boulogne, France/Lycée Professionnel Alphonse Beau de Rochas) connected on her team-leading third score of 2023.

The Warriors picked up their second consecutive win with the shutout of the Comets, a program in their first year of existence. As a team, the Warriors tallied a season-high 35 shots, with 18 shots on goal while the defense limited the Comets to just one shot on goal for the afternoon. The Warriors also earned seven corner kicks with five coming in the first half alone.

Freshman keeper María Melendez (Aragua, Venezuela/Aragua Estudiantil), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Goalkeeper of the Week, earned the win in net after working a scoreless first half for the Warriors. Sophomore Sara Cogoli (Erbusco, Italy/IIS Luigi Einaudi) closed out the match with one save over the final 45 minutes of play.

Lee opened up the scoring in the 21st minute as the sophomore fired a strike from just inside the 18-yard marker on an assist from Bru. Just over a minute later, Bru found the back of the net from 20 yards out as the freshman connected on her first collegiate goal. The Warriors continued its offensive flurry when Prince scored on a strike from 20 yards out. Maika Nchanca (Barcelona, Spain/INS Torras I Bages) picked up her team-leading fourth assist of the year on the play.

Karam delivered her first collegiate goal on a direct kick from 35-yards out to extend the lead in the 25th minute. A shot from Karam in the 37th minute deflected off the Comet keeper where Prince followed up with the rebound for her second goal of the half.

The Warriors tacked on two more goals in the second half as Blampain beat a series of defenders in the box in the 56th minute as Milena Leon (Quito, Ecuador/British International School of Houston) and Stephani Alves Talon (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Alternative College) tallied assists on the play. Karam found the back of the net once more as Leon found Karam streaking on a throw-in down the right side. The sophomore buried the 1-on-1 opportunity for the closing goal.

The Warriors return to action at home Sunday afternoon with a 12:00 PM matchup vs. Wabash Valley College (IL).
