Ottumwa -- In a battle of two teams that were each ranked in the NJCAA preseason poll, Division I No. 7 Indian Hills swept all three sets from visiting DII No. 11 DMACC on Tuesday night at the Hellyer Center. The Warriors rolled 25-13 in the opening set, then had a much tougher time in disposing of the Bears in the next two sets, IHCC prevailing, 26-24 and 28-26.
Jessica DaSilva led Indian Hills' attackers with a dozen kills, eight of them coming in the first set. It was DaSilva's kill that snapped a 24-all tie in the second set and the Warriors won the set on the next point. DaSilva led the team with nine digs. A block by Rafaela Borges with IHCC on top 27-26 finished off the Bears in the third set.
Camila Nicoletti provided 10 kills for IHCC. Coach Lyndsey Michel employed two setters and they combined for 37 assists -- 20 for Laisa Telles Maeda and 17 by Yasmin Assis.
Indian Hills heads to Council Bluffs this Friday for four matches in two days in a tournament hosted by Iowa Western. They will take on one ranked team in Western Nebraska and two teams, Hillsborough and Jefferson, who got votes in the preseason ratings.
