Indian Hills Goes 2-2 in Texas

IHCC VB

Tyler, Texas -- The Indian Hills volleyball team split four matches over two days in the Tyler Junior College Invitational.  After winning twice on Friday, the Warriors were defeated by 5th-ranked Panola College and the host Tyler Apaches Saturday.  The Panola match went five sets as did IHCC's win over Missouri State-West Plains the first day of the tourney.

In that match, MS-WP tied things up at two sets apiece with a 25-22 decision in the fourth set, only to see Indian Hills prevail 15-10 in set five.  The Warriors won 25-16 and 25-13 in sets two and three, respectively.  Jessica Da Silva led IHCC with 10 kills, hitting .381, and with six digs.  Laisa Telles Maeda provided 10 assists.

Indian Hills followed up that victory with a 3-0 win against Wharton County JC.  They triumphed 25-23, 25-17, 25-22.  Da Silva again led the way at the net with 18 kills and hit .353.  Camila Nicoletti chipped in 12 kills and 10 digs.  Maeda had 37 assists, Shenglan Chen 15 digs, and Cecilia Campos six blocks.

The Panola match was a good one.  IHCC took the opening set 25-22 and the 4th set, 25-20.  Panola won the two sets in between, 25-14 and 25-20, then won the decisive set 15-13. Nicoletti's 17 kills were tops for Indian Hills and Da Silva had 10.  Thayna Birimba and Campos provided five ace serves each.  The Warriors had 13 aces.  Chen paced IHCC with 12 digs and Nicoletti was strong at the net with nine solo blocks.

The Warriors couldn't get much going against Tyler in their final match, losing 25-13, 25-18, 25-23.  There were only 23 IHCC kills, seven by Nicoletti.  Da Silva was credited with nine digs and Birimba three ace serves.

Indian Hills is now 18-8 and will get a chance to avenge the losses to Panola and Tyler when they face those two teams in a tournament in West Plains, Mo., Oct. 13-14.

Jefferson College comes to the Hellyer Center for the next match this Thursday, then IHCC plays four times in two days in the DMACC Invite this weekend.
