15 INDIVIDUALS RANKED IN PRESEASON POLL

Centerville, IA – The top-ranked Indian Hills Women's Wrestling squad boasts 15 student-athletes in the individual national rankings to open the 2023-24 season, announced by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's Wrestling Committee Monday.

The three-time defending national champions return nine All-Americans and three individual national champions from a year ago, all which find themselves in the top eight of their respective weight classes. Four individuals earned the No. 1 rank in their class while three sit at No. 2 in the rankings.

Along with the 15 individuals, the Warriors were tapped as the preseason favorites, checking at No. 1 in the NJCAA Women's Wrestling Poll. The 15 individuals are tied for the most along with Umpqua Community College's (OR) 15 designees.

Indian Hills' three returning national champions all top their respective weight class with Dutchess King (Lansing, IL/Thornton Fractional South) at No. 1 in the 101lb weight class, Shammilka Miranda Diaz (Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz) at No. 1 at 116lbs, and Eliana Bommarito (Hartland, MI/Brighton) at No. 1 at 235lbs. Returning All-American Yaracely Saenz (Bernalillo, NM/Bernalillo) also tops the rankings in the 170lb class.

Last year's national runner-up at 235lbs, Karla Padilla Zepeda (South Weber, UT/North Ridge) is ranked No. 2 while returning All-American Tiffany White (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park & River Forest) is ranked No. 2 at 191lbs. Freshman Angelica Vicente Gonzalez (Cidra, Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz) checks in at No. 2 in the 123lbs class.

All-Americans from a season ago, Javanica Mickens (Orlando, FL/Jones) is ranked No. 5 in the 116lbs class, Brooke Burns (Wellington, KS/Wellington) was tapped at No. 4 in the 235lbs class, and Norma Alejondro (Olathe, CO/Olathe) is ranked No. 3 in the 191lbs class.

Indian Hills is set to open its season November 2 at the Multi-Purpose Building in Centerville against No. 5 Carl Albert State College (OK). The Vikings enter the year with nine individuals in the national rankings, including the top-ranked wrestler at 109lbs and 143lbs.
