Ottumwa, IA – Tuesday night marked the 6th Annual Indian Hills Athletics Choice Awards, a night to celebrate the accomplishments and moments of the past 12 months of Warrior Athletics. Recap a memorable night at the Tom Arnold Net Center with all of the award winners, photos, and more.

Academic Achievement Award – 2022-23 Indian Hills Softball (3.50 GPA)

The Academic Achievement Award recognizes the athletic team that achieved the highest team GPA during the previous year.

Heart of Service Award – 2023-24 Men's Basketball

The Heart of Service Award recognizes a team or individual that contributes to the college campus and surrounding communities in the Indian Hills Community College region.

President's Award – Chris Mpaka - Men's Basketball

The President's Award honors an individual that displays sportsmanship regardless of team challenges and individual hardships that the individual may have faced.

Athletic Appreciation Award (1) – Tammie Hartley - Assistant, Student Development

Athletic Appreciation Award (2) – Deb Worley - Assisant, Centerville Library

The Athletic Appreciation Award honors an employee of Indian Hills Community College or local entity that doesn't work within the Athletic Department on a day-to-day basis, but impacts the department by going above and beyond for IHCC and its student-athletes.

Athletic Partnership of the Year (1) – Nate Bissell, River Community Credit Union

Athletic Partnership of the Year (2) – Justin Zaputil, Joe Zaputil Trucking

The Athletic Partnership of the Year award recognizes an individual, group of individuals, or business that contributes resources to Indian Hills Community College and the Athletic Department.

Athletic Staff Member of the Year – Peyton Bakalar, Associate Athletic Director

The Athletic Staff Member of the Year award honors an Athletic Department staff member that has gone above and beyond to contribute to the Athletic Department and its student-athletes.

Competitive Excellence Award

The Competitive Excellence award recognizes an individual from each athletic team that has contributed to the goals set forth by their team

Sport Highlight of the Year – Genesis Gilmore's Run to the NJCAA Women's Wrestling National Championship

The Sport Highlight of the Year recognizes an athletic related highlight during the sport season that was an impressive achievement for that athletic team or individual.

Entering the NJCAA National Invitational as the No. 6 seed, freshman Genesis Gilmore made an unprecedented run to the National Championship, knocking off the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds to advance to the finals. In the championship bout, Gilmore knocked off the No. 1 overall seed and defending national champion to become the first 155lb National Champion in school history.

Team of the Year – 2022-23 Men's Golf

The Team of the Year award is presented to an athletic team that has achieved success in their competition season, in the classroom, and been a positive representation of Indian Hills Community College.

The Indian Hills Men's Golf team made a thrilling run to the program's seventh national title at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, KS. For the first time in school history, the Warriors captured both the team and individual national titles as Jose Miguel Ramirez claimed medalist honors. The Warriors earned three All-American awards while head coach Michael Wetrich was named the National Coach of the Year.

Student-Athlete of the Year – Eliana Bommarito

The Student-Athlete of the Year award is presented to the student-athlete that has achieved success in their competition season and in the classroom. This individual must have also demonstrated leadership skills and been a positive representation of Indian Hills.

One of the most decorated student-athletes in the history of Indian Hills Athletics, Bommarito captured her second consecutive NJCAA National Championship in the 235lb bracket. Bommarito, a two-time Beach Wrestling World Champion in 2023-24, finished her Indian Hills career with an undefeated record and the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the nation.
