WARRIORS FALL TWICE TO BATON ROUGE

Baton Rouge, LA – The Indian Hills Baseball team suffered a pair of losses to close out the team's southern road trip. The Warriors fell twice to Baton Rouge Community College (LA) 8-4 and 3-2 on Saturday at Pete Goldsby Field.

The Warriors fell behind early in game one as the Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings of play. Indian Hills claimed its first run of the contest in the fourth inning as Ricardo Van Grieken (Merida, VZ/San Luis) singled to drive in Sergio Chavez (Laredo, TX/John B. Alexander). The Bears responded with three runs in the bottom half to pull away 8-1.

Daniel Figueroa (Toa Alta, PR/Leadership Christian Academy) drove in a pair of runs with a double in the sixth inning. The freshman reached base three times in the game to continue his impressive start to his Warrior career. Chavez added a pair of hits in the loss for Indian Hills while Noah Butler (Houston, TX/Goose Creek Memorial) collected a double and a run scored.

In a pitcher's duel in the nightcap, the Warriors struck first in the third inning as Adrian Vargas (Caracas, Venezuela/Instituto Central de Educacion Ice) drove in Butler on a single. A run in the fourth from the Bears tied the game at one as starting pitcher Arturo Rodriguez (San Diego, CA/San Ysidro) limited Baton Rouge's offense through 5.2 innings of work.

The Warriors manufactured a run in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. A walk, a hit by pitch, and an intentional walk to Van Grieken led to a Baton Rouge error that plated Chavez for the go-ahead run. Rodriguez and Gavin Hinckley (West Bend, WI/West Bend West) managed to keep the Bears off the board with a scoreless sixth, but a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh led to a walk-off win for Baton Rouge.

Rodriguez finished the night allowed just one earned run with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. The Warriors finished the game with four hits, including another double from Butler.

Indian Hills is set to make its home opener at Pat Daugherty Field on Tuesday with a doubleheader vs. St. Cloud Technical & Community College at 2:00 PM.
