IHCC Golf Rakes in Accolades

Garden City, Kansas -- On the eve of the first day of the NJCAA Division I National Championship, the Indian Hills golf team accumulated numerous awards handed out by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The Warriors had three All-Americans, four All-District choices, and the award for the Outstanding Freshman. In addtion, IHCC coach Rob Murray was named the top coach in NJCAA District III, making him a finalist for the Dave Williams Award as National Coach of the Year. Murray has led Indian Hills to six tournament wins in 2016-17, heading into the national tourney.

Representing Indian Hills on the Ping All-American teams were sophomore Jackson Bugdalski, a first-team selection, freshman Ricky Sanders on the second team, and Jakub Bares, a senior who was an honorable mention pick.

IHCC had four of the ten players on the Ping All-District III team -- Bugdalski, Sanders, Bares and sophomore Eric Gilpin.

Capping off the evening's honors was the presentation of the Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award, given to Indian Hills' Sanders, who was also a named to the five-player All-Freshman Team. Sanders becomes the 4th IHCC golfer in the past seven years to claim the Mickelson Award as the nation's best first-year player. Bugdalski bagged the honor last year. Former Warriors Steven Ihm won in 2011 and Ben Ludlam in 2012.
