Indian Hills Golf Tied for First

Joe Kim

Lubbock, Texas -- Led by a five-under-par 67 from sophomore Julien Sale Indian Hills moved into a tie for first place at the midpoint of the 2018 NJCAA National Championship.  The Warriors started the day one shot behind Iowa Western and ended the second round, played in hot, windy conditions, all even with the Reivers at 12-under par 564.  IHCC's round of 286 on Wednesday was fueled by Sale, who had one of three 67s turned in for round two, and freshman Joe Kim.  While Sale is alone in 2nd place in the race for the individual title with his 136 total, trailing Iowa Western's Joel Durnford by three strokes, Kim is in a tie for 6th after his 1-under 71.  He is at 140, four-under for the tourney.

Warrior Ricky Sanders carded a 73 and is tied for 12th place at 143.  Two shots back of Sanders is teammate George Clarke, in an 18th-place tie after shooting a 75.  Maxime Leclerc also finished at 3-over 75 and is in a 6-way tie for 35th place at 147.

Both Indian Hills and Iowa Western are eight shots better than McLennan (Tex.) after 36 holes.  Another Texas school, Midland, is nine off the lead and Central Alabama trails the Iowa schools by 10 strokes.

Sale's second round included a pair of eagles.  Kim has 11 birdies through two rounds and Sale has 10.  Sale has played the par-5 holes in 7-under par and Leclerc leads the field with his minus-1 total on the par-3 holes.  IHCC has the best team score on both the par-3s and par-5s.

Indian Hills has the late tee times again today, with Kim going off at 12:30 and his teammates following him for round 3.
