IHCC Holds First Athletics Choice Awards

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills Athletic Department Monday hosted the college's first Athletics Choice Awards, recognizing individuals and teams that have distinguished themselves during the past year.  All 13 IHCC sports teams were represented at the event which was held in the Tom Arnold Net Center on the Ottumwa campus.

Highlights from each sport were noted at the beginning of the program, followed by the awards presentations.

This is a list of the awards and those who received them:

Academic Achievement Award -- baseball team

Heart of Service Award -- cheer and dance squads

President's Award -- Harley Saulmon, sports shooting team

Athletic Appreciation Award -- Bryan Stewart, marketing department

Athletic Partnership Award -- Hindman/Person Heating & Air Conditioning, Dale and Karen Person

Athletic Staff Member Award -- Kristin Mayson and Laura Goehring, athletic trainers

Sport Highlight of the Year -- Kenny Bednarek, 400 meter indoor national champion

Team of the Year -- 2018 national champion golf team

Student-Athlete of the Year -- Marcus Graham, men's cross country and track athlete

The coaches from each of the Indian Hills athletic teams presented a Competitive Excellence Award to one member of each squad who "contributed to the goals set forth by their team."  Those recipients were:

Baseball -- Jet Weber

Basketball -- Tomas Woldetensae

Cheer/Dance -- Caylea Housh

Men's Cross Country -- Clayton Grainger

Women's Cross Country -- Ashlyn Elmore

Men's Track and Field -- Josh Raphael

Women's Track and Field -- Tyarra English-Paulson

Golf -- Harry Doig

Men's Soccer -- Joao Vitor

Women's Soccer -- Emily Murphy

Softball -- Alexis Groet

Sports Shooting -- Shayla Rotenburger

Volleyball -- Mariana Silva
