Michael Wetrich was named the 11th head coach in Indian Hills Men's Golf history on February 8, 2022.

In his first full campaign with the Warriors, Wetrich led the program to its seventh national championship in 2023 at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, KS, winning the tournament by 11 strokes with a 25-under 1,127. For his efforts, Wetrich was named the 2022-23 NJCAA Division I Dave Williams National Coach of the Year. Wetrich's unprecedented year was highlighted by three NJCAA All-Americans, two PING All-Americans, and five team titles, including the national championship.

The 2022-23 season saw Wetrich and the Warriors capture the team title in each of the program's first two events of the year - the Siouxland Invite and the Bent Tree Intercollegiate. The Warriors also claimed a pair of titles in April with the Prairie Dunes Collegiate and the Bethany College Classic. Indian Hills placed second overall in the NJCAA Central District Championship before making a historic run through the NJCAA National Championship field for the program's sixth national title since 2011.

Jose Miguel Ramirez became the sixth individual national champion in program history after firing a 12-under to finish atop the leaderboard and earn NJCAA and PING All-American honors. Gaspar Glaudas was named to the NJCAA and PING All-American squads as well as a spot on the NJCAA All-Freshman team.

Academically, the Warriors were named an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year with a 3.0 GPA while all seven members of the program earned ICCAC Academic All-Region honors in the spring semester.

Wetrich guided the Warriors through the spring portion of the 2022-23 academic year that resulted in a 12th place finish at the NJCAA DI Men's Golf National Championship in Odessa, TX. Freshman Frank Vucic was named a first-team NJCAA All-American after a fourth-place finish at the national championships, the program's best individual finish since 2018.

During the Spring 2022 campaign, the Warriors placed third overall at the Lindenwood Invitational and third overall at the Prairie Dunes Collegiate at the historic Prairie Dunes Golf Course. As a team, the Warriors placed third overall at the NJCAA Central Distrit Championship to earn an automatic bid to the national championship.

"Michael brings a solid foundation to our historic men's golf program," stated Dr. Brett Monaghan, Vice President, Student Development & Operations and Athletic Director.  "Adding Michael's skill set, his experience, and knowledge of the game, along with his ties to a strong golf community will be valuable assets to continuing the legacy of Indian Hills golf. We look forward to the continued success of our teams both on the course and in the classroom."

An Ottumwa native, Wetrich joined the Indian Hills department after most recently serving as the Director of Golf Operations of The Club in Ottumwa. Wetrich managed day-to-day operations and the organization's communication plan while actively recruiting golfers and building the newly established Junior Golf Program.

Wetrich has also served as the Assistant Golf Professional at the Butte des Morts Country Club in Appleton, WI.

"I'm really excited to join the Indian Hills Men's Golf program," Wetrich stated. "The program has a rich history of success, and I look forward to continuing this legacy with our current and future teams. Being an Ottumwa native, I've had the opportunity to watch the growth of Indian Hills and the support from the community. I look forward to continuing to strengthen this relationship."

Wetrich brings a wealth of competitive playing experience to Indian Hills. Wetrich played collegiate golf at the University of Northern Iowa where he was selected as the team captain.

"As a former competitive golfer, I look forward to returning to competition and contending for a National Championship as a coach."

Wetrich has received licenses for the Wisconsin State Golf Association Rules & Regulations, the PGA of America Players Test & Rules Exam, and his Series 7, Series 66, and Life and Health Financial Securities Licenses.
