IHCC WOMEN SET SIX SCHOOL RECORDS

IHCC WOMEN SET SIX SCHOOL RECORDS

EMPORIA, KS – The first outdoor meet of the season for the Indian Hills Women's Track & Field squad produced six new school records and a slew of notable performances and personal bests.

Freshman sprinter Kahliyah Anderson continued her assault on the IHCC record books by capturing the 200 meter all-time Warrior mark with a 25.18 clocking.  Anderson's time bested former IHCC All-American Tyarra English's Paulson's time of 25.34 back at the 2018 NJCAA National Championships.

Ciara Corley picked up where she left off in the jumps as the Raytown, Missouri native leapt to school records in both the long jump (5.15m) and the triple jump (11.01m).

Former Vinton-Shellsburg prep, Lauren Upmeyer added discus school record holder to her impressive freshman campaign in the throws.  Upmeyer, who IHCC Coach Brent Ewing believes can be a contender to get to the NJCAA Championships in May, tossed the disc 38.49 meters, besting Matana Munday's 2018 throw of 36.10 by more than two meters.

Cross country standout Shiggo Shadin took her talents to the track and set the 1,500 meter record at 5:39.73, and recent transfer Peyton Steva put on a Warrior uniform and promptly set the 110 meter hurdle record with a time of 17.13.

"What great way to open our outdoor season," said Ewing.  "Several of our girls picked up right where they left off indoors."

Ewing noted that Des Moines native Kimiesha Star dropped off .70 seconds from her previous best in the 200 meter event, and pulled off the same feat in the 100, again seeing a seven-tenths improvement in her personal record.

"Those types of improvements are rare," Ewing added. "Kimeisha gives me everything she has in practice, so it was no surprise to see her run that fast."

Sophomore Jocelynn Crowell returned to the track for the first time in a year, and the Illinois native didn't disappoint.

"We went into the meet with the expectations of Jocelynn running around 12.8 in the 100 meters and 26.5 in the 200," Ewing said.  "She came out and ran 12.4 and 25.7, and I was super impressed by that."

Freshman Aimaya Drummond tried her hand at the quarter mile event for the first time in her career, and clocked in with 58.83, good enough for the fourth best 400 meter time in IHCC history.

"Aimaya came to me a week ago asking if she could run the 400," Ewing said.  "I definitely wasn't expecting her to run that fast her first time out."

Sophomore Kylar Brown is no stranger to the 400 meter race, and her time of 58.51 earned her the third fastest quarter time in school history in a race that Ewing called aggressive.

"We had so many personal best, school records and top-five all-time efforts this weekend," Ewing said. "Kids like Dausauna Combs and Temira Goods dropped several tenths off their 200 meter indoor marks. I'm confident they have some big races ahead of them."

The Warrior ladies will compete this weekend at the Loren Reusser Invite, which is hosted by Bethel College in Newtown, Kansas.
